Chart-House Guidance · United Kingdom

Guide for Parents & Carers

Calm, practical facts on how browser-based naval, pirate and ocean combat games operate — and how to read our facts strips on purchases, adverts, accounts and chat before visiting any official site.

How CoralThunder Works & the Four Facts Pillars

What You See on Every Game Card Before Leaving Our Site

CoralThunder is an independent editorial guide operated by [Operator legal name]. We do not host playable games, create player accounts, run chat rooms or process payments.

Written for players aged 16 and over.

Our game guides are based on information published by each game's developer or publisher and on official store pages, checked on 26 October 2026. We don't score or rate games.

All nine titles charted on CoralThunder are free-to-play browser games whose in-game purchases, advertising, account requirements and chat features vary by title and are detailed in each game's seafoam-mint facts block. When a player clicks an official site button, they leave CoralThunder and travel directly to the publisher's own website.

Pillar I · Monetisation

Price & In-Game Purchases

The lead line of every facts strip states whether a game is free to play with no in-game purchases, or free to play with optional in-game purchases (such as virtual currency, premium subscriptions, starter packs or cosmetic skins). We never describe a game simply as "free" without stating its purchase model alongside it.

Pillar II · Commercials

Advertising in the Browser

Many browser games fund their servers by showing banner or video adverts between rounds, or by offering optional "rewarded" video ads that grant bonus coins or cosmetics when watched. Our facts strip records whether adverts are present, optional or not mentioned on the official site.

Pillar III · Registration

Accounts & Sign-In

Instant skirmish arenas often allow immediate guest play in a web tab, with an optional account to save progress or skins across devices. Persistent strategy worlds may require registration or link with third-party logins (such as Google, Apple, Steam or Discord). Every facts strip states whether an account is required or optional.

Pillar IV · Communication

Live Multiplayer Chat

Online naval and pirate games connect players in real time. Depending on the title, communication can include open text chat, team or alliance messaging, diplomatic mail, or quick-chat emotes. Our facts strip notes the chat format and whether the game provides mute, filter or reporting tools.

In-Game Purchases, Paid Random Items & Spending Controls

Plain-Language Definitions & Device Safeguards

Understanding how real-money transactions work inside free-to-play games helps households set clear boundaries before play begins.

What In-Game Purchases Are

In-game purchases are optional items or features bought with real money inside a game that is otherwise free to start. In browser and companion-app games, these commonly include:

  • Virtual currencies: Gold, gems, bucks or doubloons bought with real money and spent in an in-game shop.
  • Cosmetic items: Ship paint schemes, pirate outfits, avatars or creature skins that change how a player looks without altering combat strength.
  • Subscriptions and passes: Time-limited memberships or season passes (such as a High Command premium account or VIP pass) that add convenience features, extra queue slots or bonus rewards.
  • Ad-removal upgrades: A purchase that disables third-party banner or video advertisements.

What Paid Random Items (Loot Boxes) Are

Paid random items — often called loot boxes, crates, chests, packs or prize wheels — are items in a game that a player buys with real money (or with virtual currency bought with real money) where the exact reward inside is decided by chance when opened.

Because the outcome is randomised, a player does not know in advance whether they will receive a common item or a rare one. Even when a game lets players earn chests through normal play, if those same chests or keys can also be bought using real money, they function as paid random items. Whenever an official store or publisher page discloses paid random items or loot crates, we state that clearly in the game's facts block.

Switching On Spending Controls Across Phones, Consoles & App Stores

Phones, tablets, consoles, computer operating systems and digital app stores all include built-in spending and parental controls that parents and carers can switch on to block or require password approval for every purchase:

  • Web Browsers & Payment Cards: Web browsers do not charge money on their own, but they can autofill saved credit or debit cards if allowed. Turn off "Save and fill payment methods" in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox settings, and never store card details or PayPal one-click logins on a shared or young person's browser profile. Most UK banking apps also let you freeze online card transactions or require biometric approval on your own phone.
  • Apple (iPhone, iPad & Mac): Open Screen Time in Settings, enable Content & Privacy Restrictions, and set iTunes & App Store Purchases → In-app Purchases to Don't Allow, or switch on Ask to Buy for family accounts.
  • Google Play & Android: Open the Google Play Store settings, go to Family → Parental controls, and under Authentication select Require authentication for all purchases so a password or fingerprint is needed every time.
  • PC Stores & Consoles (Steam, Microsoft/Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo): Use Steam Family View, Microsoft Family Safety, PlayStation Family Management or Nintendo Switch Parental Controls to set monthly spending limits to zero, disable wallet top-ups without a parent PIN, and restrict store checkout.

PEGI Age Ratings & Each Game's Own Policies

How to Check Official Classifications & Publisher Rules

Every game we link to is an independent service with its own legal terms, privacy rules and age requirements.

How to Check a Game's PEGI Rating at pegi.info

In the United Kingdom, video game age ratings and content descriptors are provided by PEGI (Pan European Game Information). A PEGI age category (PEGI 3, 7, 12, 16 or 18) reflects the suitability of a game's content for that age group — not how difficult the game is to play — alongside content descriptors such as Violence, Bad Language, In-Game Purchases (including Includes Paid Random Items).

You can check whether any game holds an official PEGI classification, and read its full content descriptors, by searching the official database at pegi.info.

Note that many standalone web-browser games are published directly on the open web and have not been submitted for a formal PEGI rating, or hold a rating only through a mobile or PC store edition (such as Google Play, the Apple App Store or Steam). In every CoralThunder facts strip, you can open the Rating & source drawer (checked on ) to see whether an official age rating is listed on a store page or if none is stated on the official website.

Each Game Has Its Own Privacy Policy, Terms & Age Rules

CoralThunder is an independent guide and is not affiliated with any game developer or publisher. Once you follow a link from CoralThunder to an official game website, your visit and any gameplay are governed entirely by that publisher's own documents:

  • Minimum age rules: Many online games and their integrated chat or social logins (such as Discord) set a minimum age in their Terms of Service (commonly 13+, 16+ or 18+, or require parental consent for players under 18).
  • Privacy & cookies: Each game publisher acts as its own data controller for account emails, gameplay telemetry, IP addresses and advertising cookies collected on its domain.
  • Code of conduct & refunds: Rules for player behaviour, chat moderation and virtual-currency purchases are set and enforced by the game's operator.

We encourage parents, carers and players to read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service linked in the footer of a game's official website before creating an account or allowing permissions.
